Windows 7 XP Mode (integrated) SUCKS

One of the shouted and touted points of Win7 Pro was the glorious integrated XP Mode.  Excellent for me because I (still) have to test every* site I make in Internet Explorer 6.

SIDEBAR: PS Did you get that email from Google Apps that spoke of their intended phase out of IE6 support this year?!?1eleven! Wheee!

Okay back to the XP Mode in Windows 7;  I have been using Win 7 Pro x86 for 5 months now (legally even, gimme a cookie please).  Also have been employing XP Mode and IE6 as a regular in-win7-ui-application.  There are some things I've noticed during those 5 months that I'll list here now:

  • Integrated XP Mode takes forever to load, like seriously 30-40 seconds.  Then takes 10-20 seconds to close when you're done.
  • Conversely, if you simply just open the non-integrated XP Mode (aka Virtual PC) it opens in 1 second, and closes in 2... for me- YMMV.
  • Integrated XP Mode Internet Explorer 6 (and other apps) is locked into 16-bit mode graphics.
  • Conversely, if you simply just.. well you know, you can see your website's gradients in non-banded 32-bit mode graphics.
  • I like cookies dipped in chocolate, sans nuts.

On a completely different, unrelated, and uncalled for note.. screw the Apple iPad.  No cookie for Apple!

*Except this one and maybe a couple of other non-paying sites
