Yay! ERGObaby.com
It’s been, what, two years of effort? The first year was a hilarious firey failure that imploded upon itself (exaggeration, but it sucked). This year, however, was fabulous.
We began the year with finding some new partners- eComm platform, designers, copywriters, leaders, etc..
I won’t name the leaders, but they’re incredible people, who I’m thrilled to call my colleagues.
I can’t name the ecomm software that we’re running because I hate it, I hate them, I hate everything about it. The only good thing this company did for us is connect us with our ERP service (though even that was more arduous than it ought to have been). And that’s all I have to say about them.
As for agencies, the new site design for ERGObaby was done by Profero in New York- a wonderful agency, that one. Profero spent weeks and weeks with us trying to figure out what ERGObaby is all about; how it wanted to grow; what it wanted to shake off and leave behind. After interviewing the EB employees, Profero came up with a design strategy and tossed out some visions of the future and mock-ups. The look you see at store.ergobaby.com as of today is the one we went with, with a few [a lot] of design changes that I absolutely had to enforce– the original design was even less readability-friendly than it is on today’s new site, with immense amounts of white text on sky blue text.. *sigh*.
Due to the limitations of our eComm platform (oh oops, here I go on a rant again), I had to invent just a ton of interesting ways to get the site displaying and behaving as it does today, even simple basic things like navigation or product swatches. Re-inventing already well built wheels because we had no choice, but alas..
But the good news is: We’re starting over from scratch again! This site will fulfill our needs to switch ERPs and just get something done; the next site is already in the conception and dreamy stage, and this time I’m not going to write what number of weeks I think it will take to get it done.. we’ll just talk about it when it happens.
